ProjectTaskExpert Opinions Results

Summary and results of the first workshop on 10 July 2001 at the Research Centre for Electromagnetic Environmental Compatibility, Aachen
  1. Following a short introduction and explanation of the project goals MUT presented and discussed a first evaluation of the agreements and differences in the data base (literature) of the four experts.
  2. The experts subsequently explained their procedure and their criteria for selecting the literature.
  3. The experts then briefly presented the essential results of their expert opinions with respect to risk assessment and the underlying arguments.
  4. Based on a compilation of the end points dealt with in the expert opinions and of the experts' topics and representation of results, a structured list of end points and topics was generated, which is shown in the table below.
  5. This list was discussed with a view to the essential points of dissent among the experts. The participants then agreed on a selection of end points and topics (these are underlined in the table), for which the differences were apparent. These will be dealt with in detail at the next three workshops (in September, October and November) calling upon further external experts.

  6. The methodological basis for further procedure at the workshops should be the approach of evidence-based medicine, especially the report by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council: "How to use the evidence: assessment and application of scientific evidence" (available online at: http://www.nhmrc.health.gov.au/publications/pdf/cp69.pdf)1.
  7. The external experts should comment on the individual end points and topics with respect to the following three priorities: - assessment of the scientific quality of the primary studies used, - significance of the findings to health, - risk assessment for the exposure conditions of base stations and mobile phonesethodische Grundlage für das weitere Vorgehen in den Workshops soll der Ansatz der Evidence Based Medicine bilden, speziell der Report des australischen National Health and Medical Research Council: "How to use the evidence: assessment and application of scientific evidence"
